Kenny Walkup, R.Ph.

Kenny owns and operates Specialty Medicine Compounding Pharmacy. An Ohio native and 1992 graduate of the Ohio Northern University School of Pharmacy, Kenny has also received extensive training in compounding pharmacy through the Professional Compounding Centers of America, Inc.
Kenny takes an active leadership role in his community and profession. He has been deeply involved with the South Lyon Community Support Team which provides assistance to families of children experiencing life-threatening medical challenges. He has been an officer for the national pharmacy fraternity, task force member for state-wide regulation of compounding pharmacies, and speaker for national compounding seminars.
Kenny is a preceptor for the University of Michigan and Ohio Northern University Schools of Pharmacy. With this responsibility he provides a pharmacy internship to students and oversees their training and development. He is also a guest lecturer at both universities. Kenny was voted Preceptor of the Year in 2003 by the University of Michigan. In 2010 Kenny was elected as a Fellow with the International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists.
Kenny, his wife Michelle (also a Registered Pharmacist), and daughter Jordyn are deeply committed to their faith and faith community. Each are active in various programs and ministries of their church, often in leadership roles.
With all of this, Kenny still finds time for hobbies. He loves to fish, bike and root for his favorite football teams. He particularly enjoys having a daughter with a passion for fishing!
Leslie Sansovich, RPh
Leslie joined our staff in November 2007 as a part-time pharmacist. She is a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Monroe School of Pharmacy. Leslie has over 20 years experience in a variety of pharmacy disciplines, including retail, hospital and specialty settings.
Leslie’s compounding experience in the specialty settings prepared her for the work she does at Specialty Medicine. Her background with sterile products makes her a valuable asset as we continue to grow that portion of our practice.
Leslie has also been designated our Quality Assurance Officer. In that capacity she ensures that we meet all state/federal laws and United States Pharmacopeia (USP) standards. She leads employee training to ensure that all employees understand and follow USP guidelines. Leslie also monitors testing of all sterile products to ensure they meet all potency and sterility standards.
Leslie lives in Novi with her husband, Scott, and two teenage sons. Most of her free time is spent with family activities. She loves to cook (a good thing with two teenagers in the house!) and work out when time allows.
Nicole Blades, CPhT
Nicole has worked in pharmacy since 1989, receiving her Associates Degree and Certified Pharmacy Technician certification from Washtenaw Community College in 1993. Nicole has advanced training in sterile products and worked for six years at a company that makes sterile IV products for hospitals and home health care. During that time she was the Quality Assurance administrator for those products.
Nicole joined Specialty Medicine in 2001 as our Sterile Products Technician. Her work ethic, background in retail pharmacy, and knowledge of sterile product guidelines make her a wonderful asset to our practice.
Nicole and husband, Jay, enjoy trying to keep up with their young daughter Megan. Nicole's favorite hobbies are completing "hard" jigsaw puzzles and cooking. We particularly enjoy when she brings new dessert recipes to work!
Jeanette Henson, CPhT
Jeanette joined our staff in November 2009 after completing the Pharmacy Technician curriculum at Madonna University and passing the Certified Pharmacy Technician exam. She is a Livonia native who previously earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Madonna.
Jeanette is an avid soccer player, coach and fan. She plays 3-4 days per week in co-ed recreational leagues and coaches youth soccer twice weekly. Her favorite teams are the Glasgow Rangers and Bayern Munich. She also plays softball in the summer months.
Making desserts, especially baked desserts, is another hobby for Jeanette. She particularly enjoys making specialty cupcakes. Her fellow staff members look forward to being guinea pigs for new recipes!
Jeanette loves her toy poodle, Peaches, and playing video games. Her long-term goal is to return to school to become a pharmacist.
Diane Tuite, Pharmacy Technician
Diane joined Kenny's staff in 2001 after 15 years as a pharmacy technician in a nearby retail pharmacy. Her primary responsibilities include receiving prescription and refill requests, processing them through the computer, and waiting on patients picking up prescriptions.
Diane's calm nature and pleasant personality are real assets in a business that can be quite hectic at times. And her extensive retail background allows her to converse easily with physicians and their staffs.
Diane enjoys gardening and cooking. She and husband, Bob, have five adult daughters and six grandchildren.
Dave Smith, Operations Assistant
Dave was the first employee at Specialty Medicine when he joined in February 2001 after retiring from a career in automotive finance. Dave spent two years helping son-in-law Kenny grow the business before retiring to Arizona. However the pull of the grandkids was too great! Dave, and wife Kathy, returned to Michigan in early 2009 and Dave was coaxed back to the pharmacy on a full-time basis.
Dave jokes that his primary responsibility is to keep Kenny organized! He creates/maintains marketing and communication materials, helps schedule and organize patient seminars, and assists with maintaining our Quality Assurance program. Dave assists during peak times by answering phones and waiting on patients.
Dave’s favorite hobby is fishing. He looks forward to the warm weather months when he can cast a fly over some unsuspecting fish. He also is a lifelong Detroit Tiger fan who has attended their Fantasy Camp.
Dave and Kathy are solar-powered and love to return to Arizona during the winter months to renew friendships and get re-charged. They have five grandchildren in the metro-Detroit area and treasure time spent with them.
Becky Griffith, Office Manager
Becky joined Kenny’s staff in 2008 with an extensive background in administration and bookkeeping. Becky’s computer hardware and software knowledge also makes her the go-to person for most of our technical needs.
Becky and her husband, Wade, have two daughters who are active with the Girl Scouts and play multiple sports. Becky acts as troop leader for both groups and as chauffer/booster for all of the sporting events!
Rotating Clinical Pharmacy Student
We are pleased to be a clinical site for the University of Michigan and Ohio Northern University Schools of Pharmacy. Throughout the school year a student spends one month with us as part of their practical training rotations. During the rotation the student learns about pharmacy compounding and completes a specific project under Kenny's direction. This is a rewarding experience for us and them!
