Compounding for Hospice Patients

Our work with local Hospice organizations may well be the most rewarding part of our practice.

As our patients come to the end of their life, many of them choose Hospice to aid in the transition. We are very proud of the role that Hospice groups have asked us to play in support of their work.

We are frequently asked by Hospice doctors to compound products that are not commercially available. Often times we are combining several medications into one easy-to-administer form. Examples are anti-nausea medications, pain medications, and inhalation products. We also offer advice to Hospice care providers.

Transdermal gels are the most popular delivery form for Hospice patients. Transdermal gels allow the medication to be administered topically by any caregiver, whether the patient is alert or sleeping. This is especially helpful for patients who have trouble swallowing or for families who are uncomfortable administering medications via injection. This alternative gives all members of the family a little comfort at a difficult time.
